The ability to make any alloy (including steel) needs to be specifically added to a civilisation type in the entity raws for them to be able to make it. This only applies to metals that can be directly smelted from their ores, like iron or copper. Materials based on what is available at their civs Sites On the other hand it makes cavern invaders 1000x more annoying because now they also have access to steel thanks to the insanely abundant metals in the world.Įnjoy the overall much more balanced game. Iron and flux are nearly guaranteed before you even breach the caverns. On 1 hand it makes it far easier for newer players to access the best metals almost anywhere you embark. This is the default setting prior to steam release, and the game is balanced around this.Ībundant minerals are a double edged sword when it comes to cavern dwellers. I suggest "Sparse" after you learn the basics. Make a new world and set minerals to something lower than the default of "Everywhere" The problem is when you give 100 rat men steel, the best non spoiler! material in the game instead of the wooden weapons they used to have. Rat men with wooden weapons will have a hard time killing even an unconscious fully armored dwarf. Nearly every type of cavern dweller is a complete pushover in combat, even for untrained dwarves.
